Pollinator required to bear fruit

A naturally disease resistant fruit tree that produces huge apples!

The Wolf River Apple tree is an antique variety that originated from Wolf River, Wisconsin in the 1870s. It’s known for its characteristically large fruit, which can weigh up to 1-lb each! The apples are wonderful for sauce and baking, holding their shape and requiring very little sugar. Walt Disney himself loved Wolf River Apples and the pies his mother would bake with them. The story is, she could bake an entire pie with just one large Wolf River apple.

This heirloom is low-maintenance, cold-hardy and disease resistant to apple scab, fire blight, and powdery mildew. Wolf River apples ripen in late September.

This tree came pretty much pruned and ready. Has good frame structure and vigorous growth. Maybe an apple in a year or two.

  2. Cain Beercheck

I am hopeful that the wolf river apple trees do well. I looked all over for them when I found them at stark bros. They are healthy trees and are growing fast

  3. Suzanne Dommer

Not a question, but for anyone considering this tree, it is truly awesome! I am ordering another. It started bearing a little late, but after a good pruning it produced bushels! This is the most popular apple tree in town, Everyone loves it.

  4. Jordan Spindler

Does not seem particularly susceptible to feeding pressure from Japanese beetles and has been a vigorous grower. Will be a few more years before I get to try the apple.

  5. Glenda Ragland

This tree has grown five feet in two year.all the fruit trees I have bought from stark bros have done well.

  6. Jan Schmidt

It’s only the first full year but the tree has tripled in height and seem to be quite robust. It will likely be a couple more years before I get apples.

  7. Timothy Maly

They have grown very well. Haven’t seen any signs of disease or rust. Planted a few and they all have survived. Hopefully they fruit in the next couple of years.

  8. B Hoats

Great looking tree, just like all of the other trees we have received from Stark Bros. :)

  9. Candius Nichols

They were thriving and had beautiful healthy leaves when they arrived…I planted them the day they arrived….they did wonderful thru the summer…I figured with all the rain we received they would have a good start…unfortunately the deer was keeping an eye on them also and have not been able to develop leaves back before they were eaten again .I am hoping the roots make it thru the winter and come back in the spring. If they do then I will need to put a wire cage of some type to keep the deer away from them.

  10. Jennie Kile

I am very happy with my Wolf River Apple Tree. It was a good size and very healthy. It flourished and grew this summer. I am looking forward to eventually seeing large apples growing in my backyard. I would highly recommend purchasing from Stark Brothers!
