America’s favorite cherry!
This early-season tree will give you pound after pound of bright-red, tart fruits—use them to make utterly delicious pies and cobblers, or freeze them for later use. The yellow flesh makes clear juice. A naturally dwarf tree, ideal for small spaces. Originates from Montmorency Valley, France in the 13th century, introduced to the U.S. in 1852. Cold-hardy. Ripens in June. Self-pollinating.

Pollination
This variety is self pollinating.
In many cases, you may still want to plant pollinating partners to increase the size of your crops, but with self-pollinating varieties doing so is optional. You’ll get fruit with only one plant!
How do I find my Hardiness Zone?
Canada’s Plant Hardiness Zones will tell you which plants will do well in your particular climate. Each zone is determined by the lowest average winter temperature recorded in a given area. Hardiness Zone information is included on all tree and plant product pages, so you know instantly whether a certain plant is likely to succeed where you live. Natural Resources Canada provides helpful options to find your zone:
KENNETH WILSON –
They usually produce well without spraying anything on them. They like well-drained soil. Mine has afternoon shade and does great. I planted it there hoping the shade would delay the bloom to reduce frost damage. I believe it helped but probably wasn’t necessary.
TED HEATH –
We have another Montmorency that bore lots of pie cherries this spring. We planted this new one last fall and it’s growing very nicely now. Too young for fruit.
Susan McConnell –
The cherry ‘tree’ that I received was barely a twig. It quickly died, even though I tried babying it along.
JASON RANDALL –
I ordered this last May so it’s been in the ground a year plus 2 months. It was a bit slow to get established at first, but in this 2nd year it is doing well. Full of foliage. Quite a bit smaller than plants I could have bought locally. I bought 2 other bare root plants (different types) from Stark Bros at the same time and those both died.
Javier Laspina –
So far no problems still growing nicely on its second year looking forward to its first cherries.
Kate Nadolinski –
The tree survived the winter (we planted it only last fall) and grew a lot. We do not have any cherries yet, but as of now the tree looks very healthy.
Peter Peter –
The first ones did not do well, but these have done marvelously.
Kyle Balint –
Unfortunately it never even started to grow after planting last summer. It was dead on arrival I guess. Just dug it up 2 weeks ago and no roots.
Alden Studebaker –
We had ordered a similar cherry tree from a competitor and it did not grow, so we ordered this one from Stark Bros. We are very pleased with its robust growth.
Heather S –
I am so impressed with the wonderful quality of the cherry tree I bought from Starkbros! It survived a very long zone 4a winter with temperatures in the -20s! It is now budding with fresh leaves and even a new tree from the roots! I will order from Starkbros again!
