Self-Pollinating

A classic among classics – versatile & reliable!

In 1914, Paul Stark Sr. introduced an apple with no equal: it was sweet, exceptionally juicy, a bit spicy … and it wasn’t red! The tree is an abundant bearer of excellent fresh fruit that, when picked at the perfect ripeness, tastes better than the same apple in a store. A generational favorite for snacking, pies, applesauce and sweet or savory salads. Cold-hardy and heat-tolerant. Discovered by Anderson Mullins in West Virginia. Ripens in late September. Self-pollinating, and also one of the most dependable pollinators for other varieties.

How do I find my Hardiness Zone?

Canada’s Plant Hardiness Zones will tell you which plants will do well in your particular climate. Each zone is determined by the lowest average winter temperature recorded in a given area. Well the tree is very healthy and growing nicely. It is too soon to tell what the fruit will be like. Everything looks good, but it is going to take a year or two more to produce. Hopefully I will be able to given it a five star rating after I get the opportunity to try the first apple.

  2. CRAIG JACOBSON

Sorry, sure wish I could write a review but for some reason the tree did not make it.

  3. EDWARD FARRAR

Unfortunately, the trees never grew. I gave them plenty of time, water, and fertilizer, but they never grew. The pear trees I planted in another part of the yard grew fine at the same time were fine, but the Apple trees didn’t make it.

  4. Kelly Larson

Planted this tree last fall and has no activity this spring, was a nice plant when it arrived, honeycrisp took off fine, but this golden delicious and my reliance peach did not.

  5. DANIEL SORGMAN

Emailed asking what to do & how to replace them & got no reply of any sort.

  6. WANDA STEORTS

I ordered 3 Dwarf Supreme Apple trees 25 May 2014. Holes dug, soil tested & prepared prior, planted the day of arrival. By dormant time in the fall, the Enterprise had grown about 1 foot, adding another 2 feet in the 2015 growing season, with no blooms in spring 2016.The Starkrimson Gala grew about 2 feet in 2014, adding another 3 feet in 2015, with 3 blooms and now 3 small apples growing in spring 2016, slightly less than two years from planting. The Golden Delicious grew to well over 6 feet tall in 2014, topping out over 8 feet tall in 2015. This year after heavy pruning, there are 14 apples growing. The tree is about 9 feet tall, and my smile is a mile wide.I recommend the Stark Dwarf Supreme to anyone serious about planting apple trees.PS: I am a descendant of the Mullins from whose farm the “Mullins Yellow Seedling” originated.I give permission to use all or part of this review anyway Stark desires.Rod Steorts,

I received this tree for my mother as a mother’s day last year (2015). The tree never grew, never bloomed. It’s literally a stick in the yard. VERY unhappy.

  9. Amy Mosley

I planted this tree last spring 2015 and it made it through the year. Looks healthy and happy so far this spring 2016. I planted garlic around its base to help with any pests too.
