Grow your own uniquely delicious homegrown apples!

Jonagold was developed by Cornell University’s apple breeding program at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, New York circa 1953. This tasty cross has the tartness of a Jonathon and the sweet flavor of the Golden Delicious apple.

After blooming in the spring, follow lovely golden apples that blush. By mid-September, you’ll be treated with a nice crop of crisp, juicy Jonagold apples – sweet enough to be dessert by itself.

This particular apple tree thrives in colder climates. It benefits from a regular spray routine to keep pests and disease at bay.

Note: Jonagold is a Triploid apple tree and cannot pollinate other apple trees.

How do I find my Hardiness Zone?

Canada’s Plant Hardiness Zones will tell you which plants will do well in your particular climate. Each zone is determined by the lowest average winter temperature recorded in a given area. Hardiness Zone information is included on all tree and plant product pages, so you know instantly whether a certain plant is likely to succeed where you live. Growing for two years, first year rather slowly but this year finally seemed well established. No fruit yet though many recommend for eating out of hand, baking and cider. Can’t wait.

  2. Jessica Kiwiet

Only the portion below the graft survived. I do not have luck with Stark apple trees.

  3. Carolyn Blankenship

We purchased the tree last spring, watered it all summer and it was doing good. Then it didn’t come out this spring. We were pretty disappointed. Will Stark replace it for us?

  4. Harold Klotz

After purchasing over 20 good trees from Starks, the Jonagold Apple that you sent me last year was spindly and of very poor quality. It was essentially a V-shaped twig. There was no dominant stem, no small branches, and I was unable to trim this poor quality tree. It made it through the winter, but I doubt if it will ever produce decent apples and it will probably break in half if it grows to maturity and a strong wind comes along.

  5. Laura Boone

I would recommend buying the jonagold tree. It lived through the winter and is growing this spring.

  6. Michael Walker

The Jonagold apple trees I purchased have grown very well and produce very large sweet apples – must thin properly though to prevent limb damage.

Wonderful packaging and shipping. Tree came in moist packaging and ready for planting. Planted as so as possible and at the end of fall it grew 8″ in height. Will buy more trees from Starks.

  8. Dean Kumbalek

We are very pleased with the Jonagold we received and planted last year. After pruning this year we have (3) established branches and much to our surprise a few blossoms on the leader! This is a vigorous healthy tree of the highest quality! Thanks.

  9. Thomas Lundin

After a year of growth, the tree is growing fast and healthy. Very happy with my purchase!

We planted the tree last year and it has grown vigorously. No apples yet but I’m sure it won’t be long.
