Pollinator required to bear fruit
Grow your own uniquely delicious homegrown apples!
Jonagold was developed by Cornell University’s apple breeding program at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, New York circa 1953. This tasty cross has the tartness of a Jonathon and the sweet flavor of the Golden Delicious apple.
After blooming in the spring, follow lovely golden apples that blush. By mid-September, you’ll be treated with a nice crop of crisp, juicy Jonagold apples – sweet enough to be dessert by itself.
This particular apple tree thrives in colder climates. It benefits from a regular spray routine to keep pests and disease at bay.
Note: Jonagold is a Triploid apple tree and cannot pollinate other apple trees.

Pollination
This variety requires another one for adequate pollination.
Cross-pollination by a different variety is key to its growing and bearing success. Plant a different variety within 15 meters (50 feet) for best pollination.
Recommended Pollinators: Ginger Gold, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Red Delicious, Winter Banana
How do I find my Hardiness Zone?
Canada’s Plant Hardiness Zones will tell you which plants will do well in your particular climate. Each zone is determined by the lowest average winter temperature recorded in a given area. Hardiness Zone information is included on all tree and plant product pages, so you know instantly whether a certain plant is likely to succeed where you live. Natural Resources Canada provides helpful options to find your zone:
Peter Arseneault –
I purchased 2 Jonagold Apple trees last year and they came in perfect condition. I planted them last fall, and they have already begun to leaf out this spring. Jonagold is one of my favorite apples from a local orchard so I am very excited to see how they turn out.
Christine Hodges –
We were highly suspicious when the little broomstick (aka tree) showed up, but it has grown and it now one of our best trees. We have high hopes of having apples this year. Best purchase we’ve made in awhile. :-)
Kenneth Bingaman –
Havent had any yet. But this year they will produce some fruit, trees are good and healthy
Robert Strunz –
We planted a Jonagold Semi-Dwarf apple tree in 2014. It has overwintered well for two winters in Northern Wisconsin and is about to be in full bloom. There are many blossoms and we are looking forward to tasting some homegrown apples. The quality of the bare root stock was excellent and we would highly recommend Stark Bros. nursery products to anyone.
Warren Hamman –
Tree planted in Spring 2015. Has a great growth habit and growth and have not had to prune it yet. Unlike my Starkspur Golden Delicious Apple planted at same time, it has no flowers or fruiting this year. This is why I gave the tree 4 stars in lieu of 5. Very hopeful for bounteous harvests for years to come.
Patricia Boyland –
The tree is very healthy, but no apples this year.
Linda Gregory –
This is a wonderful apple and I can’t wait for it to start blooming. Looking good so far
Erna M Harvey –
Neither of the trees I purchased made it through the winter, and it was a mild winter here. I won’t be purchasing any more.
Joella Socko –
Nice stock. Took off quickly and doing very well. Very pleased so far
Joseph Fuchs –
As always with stock from Stark Brothers, the Jonagold tree was doing great, then the deer destroyed it. I hate deer. I will be opening my land to hunting this season.
