Pollinator required to bear fruit

One of the country’s top 5 apples!

Phenomenal crunch, juiciness and sweetness have made Honeycrisp a nationwide favorite. The fruit is wonderfully aromatic and sweet as honey, with an explosively juicy, crisp bite. Small spaces are perfect for this naturally compact tree. Originates from Excelsior, Minnesota in 1974. Cold-hardy. Ripens in early September. Pollinator required: Choose any other apple variety.

Note: A properly-applied calcium supplement substantially improves the apple quality and makes the tree easier to grow.

Bought 5 trees, the honey crisp is a straight stick without on branch coming off of it. Wouldn’t have minded a branch or 2.

  2. Lee Cote

Order 3 trees to ensure cross pollination. Stark brothers rescheduled the delivery outlook 4 times before finally cancelling two of the trees. When I asked for a refund for the full order they said too bad as the one remaining tree order processed. What good is a single apple tree that requires cross pollination? Will not do business with this company again. They should’ve been willing to refund the full order given they couldn’t fulfill it and understanding the impacts of what is required for a tree to grow.

We planted a Honeycrisp, Red Rome Beauty and Golden Delicious from Stark at least six years ago. The Honeycrisp grew a good size but has almost born no flowers or fruit while the others have given us a lot. We wondered if an evergreen tree about 40 feet from Honeycrisp was causing it… the other two are 10′ and 20′ farther from that tree. Disappointing.

I bought a Granny Smith tree and a grafted pear tree at the same time as this one. Planted them all last year and fed them the tree starter from here. The other two trees seem to be doing well, but this one isn’t showing any signs of life. Fingers crossed for a miracle. ????

  5. David Clement

purchased 10 saplings, 4 have died, 5 saplings are doing -ok one is definetely having trouble -one tree already had an apple on fruit spur ,overall satisfied

  6. Garo Garo

Planted in the fall prior to freezes. It didn’t do good, some branches from the root came up, 1 looks like it is above the graft approx. 12 inches high.No Good Luck,Gary

  7. Terry Ferguson

I was disappointed the bare root seedling I received was about half the anticipated height. After nearly a year in the ground it has grown nearly as tall as what I originally expected to receive. In hindsight, wish I’d bought a balled/potted tree.

Lost all our Honeycrisp over the Minnesota winter. -40 and wind chills into -60s. These Honeycrisp put on the most growth of the 24 trees, so I was surprised to loose them.Starkbros warranty is amazing, and they gave me store credit as I no longer wanted to risk going with Honeycrisp.

  9. Olena Jurak

I planted bare root honey crisp apple next to my very old and very big crab apple tree and it is growing and thriving. Survived a pretty cold winter. I’ve used Starkbros tre prep fertilizer in the spring. Very happy with my purchase.

I had bought this tree in March and had it inside until May. During the day, I moved the tree to the back porch to get great sun, and back inside to protect from cold temps. I live in Maryland and was worried that the over night temps might hurt it and wanted to acclimate it properly. It’s doing great outside in a big pot on my back porch. I fertilize it with Tre-Pep every two weeks
