Pollinator required to bear fruit

A fuss-free elderberry that tolerates clay soil.

The fast-growing plant has shiny green leaves and some of nature’s prettiest, most aromatic fruiting flowers in May. The blooms are edible (do not eat the leaves, stems or roots) and can be used for tea, wine and cordials. If left undisturbed, the flowers develop into large clusters of fruit that contains high levels of vitamin C. If you’ve been picking wild elderberries, try a cultivar and experience the higher quality and better consistency. Cold-hardy. Ripens in August. Pollinator required: Choose any other elderberry variety.

  3. Connie McKee

Ordered two bushes a year ago. Two sticks arrived in the mail, but when I put them in the ground they took off. Both are thriving and are flowering this year so I expect I’ll have berries this fall. I am very pleased with the promptness of the service and quality of the plants.

  5. William Fish

Some big and vigorous, two of them barely big enough to live. While 4 did make it through to this year one is missing in action and one of the live ones is a very, very poor specimen.Considering that these elderberries self-seed around here I expected more uniform plants and better viability. We planted with great care: I used to help run a nursery.

  6. Chuck Bender

Great yield in first year and this years growth is even better

  7. Nathan Anderson

We ordered two elderberry plants. One lasted all summer then died in the fall. The other is still growing. I will say the turn around time was good and the shipment of the plants was exceptional but as far as the product goes we have yet to see results.

I ordered these about a year ago now with little to no knowledge of Elderberries other than some simple google research and the fact I enjoyed Elderberry juice I bought at the store. At first the York Elderberry did the best and managed to produce flowers but that was about it. It grew into a nice little size bush. The Adams also grew a bit and that was that. The summer of 2016 in this part of Ohio suffered pretty nasty drought so the only water they got what was I gave them which was enough. So considering their first year and drought conditions they did ok. The spring of 2017 has experienced remarkable grow for both plants. However, the Adams Elderberry sent two shoots up about 2 feet away from the plant which are now as big as the original plant. Strange eh? This year I did noticed (as last) that there are little spots so I am concerned about possible fungi infections so I may need to apply organic fungicide or neem oil as a precaution. I also just planted a Johns elderberry in spring of 2017.

I was very happy with my purchase of Elderberry bushes from Stark Bros. They were delivered very quickly and came in great shape. They even threw in an extra little one, whether on purpose or not, so I planted the little guy in a special area in the back corner of my yard. It’s the little elderberry bush that could, lol! They are all doing great and flourishing in my back yard with a German Shepherd and West Highland Terrier dog running amok all around them.I would recommend buying from Stark Bros. They have great products and I’ve never been disappointed by the plants they have shipped me.

They are really doing well this year. Only in the ground since last year and they are already getting ready to set flowers. I am in Michigan.
